Dance

The RHS Dance Department offers students a full range of dance classes. These classes begin with Dance I/II, an Intro to Dance, and continue through Dance Workshop, a course for the most advanced dancer. Students in the program study ballet, modern, jazz, African, improvisation, composition and dance history. Students are grouped by levels of progress in dance rather than grade level and will advance based on the student's progress. Students may audition for placement in dance courses or Dance Workshop in December and in June.
There is a one time production fee of $60 for all students. This production fee covers the cost of a costume rental, dry cleaning of the costume, lighting designer fees, stage crew, program printing, floor tape, and ticket printing.

Visual Art

Renaissance High School has a highly competitive advanced art program. Our students out preform their competitors in photography, drawing and painting for the Detroit Public Schools/Detroit Institute of Art Exhibition. Traditionally, students begin with an entry level drawing class, and then are encouraged to continue their second year with an advance course that introduce those to painting and higher level opportunities. After students complete two years of drawing and studio they have the option to continue their course of study either with an upper classman photography class, or first year Advance Placement course. All students that complete A.P. studio are then encouraged to enroll in the Senior A.P. Studio.
